Dog-Friendly Patios in Calgary: Where Your Pup Is Actually Welcome

Calgary summers are short, glorious and best spent outdoors — ideally with your dog by your side. But "dog-friendly" in Alberta is more complicated than a sticker on the door, so here's how it actually works and where to go.

How dog-friendly patios actually work in Alberta

Check the individual venue's policy before you go: permission to use a patio does not automatically include the dining room or taproom. Ask how to enter with your dog and whether the patio is operating that day. The venues below had published dog-friendly policies when checked on 11 September 2026; policies and seasonal access can change.

3 dog-friendly patios in Calgary with published policies

Cold Garden Beverage Company — Inglewood

Cold Garden welcomes pets inside its taproom at 1100 11 Street Southeast, Calgary. Its pet policy also explains that outside food is welcome and that pets need a waterproof barrier if they use the couches. For an outdoor visit, Tourism Calgary's listing confirms the dog-friendly, year-round patio.

Citizen Brewing Company — 35th Avenue NE

Citizen Brewing Company explicitly welcomes well-behaved dogs on its patios. The brewery sits between Tuxedo and Highland Park, and its outdoor space includes a hop and vegetable garden. The official contact page lists 227 35th Ave NE, Calgary. Plan this as a patio stop; the published invitation does not establish indoor dog access.

Original Joe’s — Stephen Avenue

The Stephen Avenue location of Original Joe’s, at 109 8th Avenue SW, lists a dog-friendly patio on its official location page. Check patio availability and the entrance to use before visiting with your dog. This permission is specific to the Stephen Avenue branch, not a promise that every Original Joe’s restaurant has the same policy.

Patio etiquette (that keeps patios dog-friendly)

  • Exercise first. A walk beforehand helps your dog settle and enjoy the experience.
  • Keep your dog close. A short leash and staying out of server lanes helps everyone feel comfortable.
  • Bring the essentials. Water, a bowl and something familiar can make longer visits easier.
  • Know when it's time to go. If your dog is overwhelmed, uncomfortable or struggling to settle, a shorter visit is always better.

Enjoy Calgary with your dog

From riverside walks to sunny patios, Calgary has plenty of ways to include your dog in everyday adventures. With a little planning and consideration for others, patios can be a fun experience for both dogs and humans.
